Editorial: What Is Brain Mapping?

author

Abstract:

G20 World Brain Mapping Initiative (Neuroscience/N-20) is Putting Brain Mapping on the top of Global Economic Issues The Society for Brain Mapping, Therapeutics, and Brain Mapping Foundation are propelling therapeutic advances in Nano-Neurosurgery, Nano-Bio-Electronics, Artificial Intelligence, Neuro-Supercomputing and ‘cross-pollination’ among the bio-medical sciences and engineering worldwide. “Think of Brain Mapping as a google map, the snapshot of earth being equivalent of the MRI. Now zoom down to the cities, which represents a Functional MRI, then zoom on the roads, which represent brain connectomics. If you zoom down further, you will see the cars, which represent brain cells and people in the car represent brain genomics and nanoscale structures” explains Dr. Babak Kateb, Founding Chairman of the Board of SBMT, Scientific Director of California Neurosurgical Institute.

P-value: What is and what is not

The misinterpretation and misuse of p-value have been increasing for decades. In March 2016, the American Statistical Association released a statement to warn about the use and interpretation of p-value. In this study, we provided a definition and discussion of p-value and emphasized the importance of its accurate interpretation.

What is Preference Mapping

As the capacity to summarize of the preference map diminishes with the number of consumers (the number of axes to interpret increases), a non-metric PCA is sometimes used to reduce the number of necessary axes. The non-metric PCA consists of a monotone transform of the data so that the variability explained by the k (k=2 or 3) first axes is maximized. This transform implies that we consider the...

Joseph A . Goguen What Is Art ? Editorial

What is art? What is beauty? How do they relate? Where does consciousness come in? What about truth? And can science help us with issues of this kind? Because such questions go to the very heart of current conflicts about Western value systems, they are unlikely to receive definitive answers. But they are still very much worth exploring — which is precisely the purpose of this collection of pap...

Editorial: What is special about the gene?

The gene may be yesterday’s concept as far as science is concerned. However, it is still alive in the popular imagination. It presents a rich challenge to humanities disciplines in generating ideas and analytic perceptions. Furthermore, as the gene and genomics escape the laboratory into everyday life and culture, they shape, and are shaped by, the world views of ordinary people. This in turn m...

What Is Applied Literature?

Applied literature is a term that is the outcome of a need to put literature to tangible uses in the “real” world. A medical practitioner looking for a definition of life, for instance, finds literature a useful source for the answer. With paradigm shifts in scientific studies, interdisciplinarity has been a method to overcome the alienations that resulted from the isolation of disciplines from...
